Question: My mother is approximately 75 years of age; she sufferers from a variety of chronic conditions such as Psoriasis & sciatica. For the last 2 weeks she has been suffering with a low grade fever of 99.5 degrees, mild scratchy throat, extreme fatigue and body aches. She has tested negative for Covid-19. Do you have any suggestions? or a possible diagnosis?

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
There are many possibilities

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The symptoms your mother has are fairly general, so it is hard to say exactly what the cause could be. Body, or muscle aches, can have many causes, including infections, especially viral, rheumatic disease, such as polymyalgia rheumatica, medications (such as statins), thyroid issues, and fibromyalgia, among many others. Since it has only been going on for 2 weeks, infection, especially a viral infection, would seem most likely, though it could be the start of a rheumatic disease as well. Fatigue and low grade fever can also go with either a viral illness or rheumatic disease, while a sore throat would make more sense with a viral infection. 2 weeks is a bit long to still have symptoms from a viral infection, though it is not unheard of. If she is not improving, I would suggest having her blood checked to look for signs of infection, I would also swab her throat to make sure she doesn't have a bacterial infection such as strep, and if still there is no clear cause, and her symptoms persist, she should probably be evaluated for a rheumatic disease such as polymyalgia rheumatica.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any other questions about that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
Thanks.
