Question: My daughter is 5 years and 4 months. 4 font teeth, 2 lower and 2 upper teeth fell off approximately a month back. I see tooth buds in the lower spaces now.
1. Is this the appropriate age for her milk teeth to fall?
2. All 4 teeth fell within a span of 2-3 days apart, is this normal
3. How much time does it take for the new tooth to appear?
4. Should I be administering her calcium or any other supplement at this stage?
Many thanks,
XXXX
Brief Answer:
Mixed dentition stage seen
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for sharing your concern.
I would like to answer your query one by one,in the same sequence. Please note them.
1.Yes, this is the correct age for your child's dentition to shift from deciduous(milk) to permanent teeth one by one.
2.Falling or exfoliation of teeth within a span of two to three days can be considered normal when it is natural. In any case, if there is any injury or decay then definitely it is a matter of concern, else no problem at all.
3.To know exactly how much time will the teeth take to appear in your child's mouth? you will have to take a small x ray which will show you the stages of root formation. If two third of root development has taken place then the tooth takes around five to six months to erupt completely in the mouth.
Therefore my suggestion would be to go for a simple x ray in that case.
4.Calcium supplements in the form of milk and milk products is always recommended for growing children. It not only helps in teeth development but also healthy bones. Therefore you can give her rich diet with calcium.I do not think calcium supplements in the form of tablets or syrups is recommended at this age.
Hope I have given you detail answers .Please let me know for further doubts.
Thanks.
Take care.
