What Is The Cause And Treatment For Anemia?

Question: Hello
Daughter, age 37, rny bariatric patient, 5 years out. Hgb is 105. Should she be transfused or is iron supplement enough to bring up to normal?

Please, upload the full blood count result that was given to your daughter. Not all anemia is caused by iron deficiency. I will need to evaluate more using other parameters present on the sheet to conclude whether iron deficiency is the cause of this anemia or not. Other causes of anemia include vitamin B12(common in persons with stomach resection) and folic acid deficiency.
I am certain she needs no transfusion at this time to correct this anemia. Addressing this degree of anemia at this time is no emergency. I will like to make the exact diagnosis so that the right treatment would be provided to help correct this.

I have reviewed it and the findings are all in support of iron deficiency anemia. Taking iron supplements by mouth should be able to correct this. If she has any chronic bleeding like prolonged periods or blood in stools, it should be addressed also.
