What Is The Cause And Treatment For Kleptomania?
Best way is starting treatment.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I completely understand when you say that you feel exhausted with your situation and then realize that you have done it again only after doing it. Impulse control disorders really make us feel terrible and the fact that no one else seems to understand it makes it even more worse.
I don't think you should be worrying about explaining about your symptoms to anyone else as of now. It is something that many people don't know about and you will just be wasting your energy. The best way out is just to start therapy, sooner the better. You should yourself seek a psychiatric consultation for it. Therapy and medications would help you control the urge and relax. Once you are able to control the urge, you will feel better.
Treatment for Kleptomania has a good enough response. Of course, you will have to put in efforts and follow instructions as guided by your therapist.
I really hope you are able to get over this soon. Please feel free to ask any further queries that you might have. I will be glad to help. Wishing you speedy recovery.
Best wishes,
Dr. Sunil Gupta

Hi,
Thanks for following up. It is heartening to see that you have taken your first step towards treatment. Yes, meeting a counselor could be the right way to more forward.
The counselor might be able to guide you regarding steps to be taken in your treatment. Frankly, I don't know what kind of counselor have you fixed your appointment with. But, you can definitely ask him/her regarding your condition and regarding starting therapy.
The best person to start therapy in your case would be a psychotherapist. I guess you can directly ask your counselor regarding the mode of treatment he/she can offer and then accordingly decide.
Whatever be the discussion of the meeting, you can talk to me about it and I would be glad to offer my help further, if you want.
Wishing you the very best of luck.

Regarding your condition, you really don't have to worry if you keep yourself motivated. As you have mentioned, you have to see it face to face and then overcome this challenge. You are a fire fighter...... you must have seen many challenges in life. Just take this one too as one of the many fires you have to extinguish. I m pretty sure you will win.

Wonderful that you took the first step.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am glad that you have made a start and the best part is I am able to perceive optimism in your response.
Its fine with not starting medications initially. In case of kleptomania, psychotherapy is definitely far more helpful. And if you could do well on psychotherapy alone, that would be a wonderful thing. The need for medication could be looked into at a later stage.
Just remember one thing, you will have to be patient. The response would be gradual. Once weekly sessions are appropriate in your case. You will have to not just visit the counselor but also follow the instructions and do home works as told. Keep your spirits high and I somehow have a feeling that you will do wonderfully well.
And of course, I am here for you to clear any doubt that you might have.
Wishing you all the very best for initiating a new chapter in your life,
Regards,
