Brief Answer:
may be an infection to the eye

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

If there is no history of trauma to the eye or foreign object in the eye then-
The presence of the excess discharge along with redness and swelling, may indicate that an infection is present in the eyes.

One of the most common infections of the eyes is conjunctivitis which can be viral or bacterial.
Viral infections tend to be milder than bacterial infections.

With your swelling , pain and discharge, a bacterial infection is likely and this means that topical antibiotics to put into the eye may be needed.

Eye hygiene- meaning cleaning off the excess discharge as it occurs, then watching hands, is also important

Summary- may be an infection which can be viral or bacterial
Bacterial infections require antibiotics to the eye
