What Is The Correlation Between Reticular Erythematous Mucinosis And Lupus?
Question: Is there any correlation to Reticular Erythematous Mucinosis and Lupus or any other connective tissue disorder?
Brief Answer:
Not established.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,
Thank you for posting your query on HCM.
Well, there have been case reports that suggest that there may be similarities between Reticular Erythematous Mucinosis and one variety of SLE that is Lupus Tumidus and they have been grouped under same category but no definite association is there and the treatment lines are different. Some case reports also suggest that people having this condition may develop SLE later but there are no studies to prove the same.
Since its a very rare entity not much has been found in its pathogenesis to link it with autoimmune etiology.
Take care.
