default
Posted on Sat, 2 Jul 2022
Question: Hi, I have been taking Levothiroxine since 1998. There are a few problems with me but my blood tests are normal, (TSH level 3.74 mu/L and T4 level 17.6 pmol/L) I would like to add T3 to my medication for a trial period. Please can you provide me with a prescription for T3 or Armour? How do I do this? Happy to have a private prescription. tnx

Brief Answer:
Armour thyroid dosage

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The starting dose is Armour thyroid, 90 mg which is cut in half and taken twice a day, 10 to 20 minutes after breakfast and dinner. If you have trouble remember taking them, then take the entire dose before breakfast. It is also ideal to chew the tablet before swallowing.

Taking it after meals also helps to reduce volatility of the blood-level of T3.
Once on hormone replacement, the dose should be increased until the TSH falls below 0.4.
The Free T3 and Free T4 levels should be checked every month and the hormone therapy readjusted until the FT3 and FT4 levels are in the therapeutic range .
