My then doctor advised me to take 5th dose on time and then take 6th dose booster dose after 60 days, to 5th dode . I missed 6th dose as i cam to US after taking 5th dose. 6th dose was scheduled on Feb 6th. Can i get rabbies now. I am very much scared.
Dates are like..my Fourth dose-Nov 14...Second Dog Bite-Nov 21.. Fifth dose- Dec 2nd

Brief Answer:
it's possible but not very likely

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

current recommendations for rabies post-exposure prophylaxis include among others four doses of the a vaccine like rabipur. When a new bite occurs in a vaccinated person two more doses are recommended on days 0 and 3 after the incident. This kind of preventive measures and others (wound cleansing, human immunoglobulin) reduce the risk for contracting rabies but do not completely eliminate it.

So the answer is that no preventive measure completely eradicates the risk for rabies but you've done all that you could... After having been vaccinated and bitten very recently after the completion of the 4 doses, I believe that your risk is very low and you shouldn't worry.

I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!

Hello Doctor,
I had taken Rabipur full 5 doses. I have heard that Rabipur rises antibody ≥ 0.5 IU/ml within 4 doses or evern 3 doses. So when the second bite was occurred, it was almost past 8 days of my Fourth Dose. By that time would not my body having enough antibodies to fight the virus. Also i have 5th dose on time. Please guide me i am scared. Its just like i have not taken 6th dose due to overdose issue. Who recommends only 4 or in immunodeficient patient 5 doses. Its almost 6 months now when the second bite occurred. Is there still chance of mine having rabies in future. I have my marriage in Nov this year. Should i cancel my marriage, as if i am going to have rabies in future then there is no point in spoiling my fiancee life. Should i let her know that i can be have rabies in future. Please guide me
Is it possible that due to missed 6 th dose, virus is till residing in my body. Rabies death is worst death in the world, i am very much scared. Is there any benefit of taking 6th dose now, its almost 6 months now.

Brief Answer:
do not cancel anything!

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

it's understandable to feel this way because rabies is a dreadful disease but please realize that you've don't all that you could and although there is some risk, it's not high enough to really consider when taking decisions about the future. There is absolutely no reason to cancel your wedding or to instill fear to your wife-to-be. Since the bite occurred after the 4th dose, you're probably more than prepared for it. Typically the recommendation after a second bite is to do 2 more doses but the time you were bitten was just the time that your antibodies should have been more active against rabies, so the estimated protection should have been at the highest level.

Please do not worry any more and do not let it affect your life so much.

Best wishes!
