What Is The Dose Of Allopurinol For A Patient With

Question: What is the dose of allopurinol for a patient with GFR 30? she has gout and needs medication for this
Brief Answer:
shouldn't initiate treatment with allopurinol in gout
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
unless gout has been treated and a couple of weeks have passed since its onset, allopurinol should not be given to the patient. If the patient has to take allopurinol and there is no sign of gout now then 100mg is a good dosage to start with. Dosage reduction are required in GFR levels of 20mL/min or lower. Make sure you talk with the patient's doctor before starting treatment with allopurinol!
