What Is The Effect Of Burning Plastic Fumes On The Fetus?

default
Posted on Sat, 3 Jan 2015
Question: Hi! I burned a pot by accident where the plastic handle started giving off a strong fine. I was exposed to the smell for about 10 min. Can this harm a 20 week fetus? Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Your fetus is safe!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

The baby would have no effect from this. If it could not harm you, then the levels were very small and would not even get anywhere near your baby. Our fear with smoke fumes is that it causes reduced oxygen intake and not that it can cause malformation or retarded growth. Because you suffered no lack of oxygen, your baby is absolutely safe. Be calm, and relax about this.

I wish your a safe pregnancy and delivery. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
