What Is The Ideal Fasting Duration Before Checking Blood Glucose Levels?
My glucose level in fasting was 114 today (i took an antibiotic ear drops last night), I had a heavy meal at night 12:30 am after the party with a chocolate cake. and took my blood sugar at 8:15 am.. Usually my fasting sugar level was 90 - 99.. once I saw as 110 two weeks ago.. again from next day it went to 92 range.. Today again my sugar level was 114 (I took antibiotic drop for ear inflammation at 1:30 Am)..... do i need to worry about it.. is it possible for elevation on sugar level after a very heavy meal with sugar level on the previous night?... How many hours of fasting is needed to check the fasting gulcose level?
Further evaluation needed.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
You should not worry about your readings though further evaluation is advisable.
Heavy meals containing sugar at previous night definitely affect fasting blood sugar levels.
To test fasting blood sugar level there should be at least 8 hours of fasting (no calories intake) is recommended.
Inflammation may also raises blood sugar level due to release of stress hormones.
If risk factors of diabetes like overweight (BMI more than 25), family history of Diabetes is present it is advisable to do Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) or HbA1c level in your case.
Hope I have answered all your queries.
I will be happy to answer your further questions.

Hi,
Though Fasting blood sugar levels of 110 & 114 are in pre-diabetic range it needs to be confirmed by OGTT.
