What Is The Procedure To Remove Or Bypass Serious Plaque

How long would it put you down?
generally safe procedure
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Peripheral artery bypass, which may also be known as infrapopiteal (below the knee) bypass surgery is done when there is significant ischemia (reduced blood supply) to the lower limb in the area below the knee.
This reduced blood supply, as you mentioned, is usually due to the presence of a plaque.
The procedure may used some of one of the veins in the body, usually either the great saphenous vein. In some cases, other veins such as the small saphenous vein or superior femoral veins.
Veins are preferred over prosthetic material .
There are different types of prosthetic material that can be used if the veins cannot be used.
Prior to the procedure , control of all factors that may contribute to plaques need to be achieved. This means tight control of cholesterol, blood pressure , diabetes, smoking cessation
Investigations are done to confirm the presence of the plaque or blockage.
The procedure is done under general anesthesia, it can take 30 mins to hours. After 2 days, you would be encouraged to get up and walk about though it can take 4 to 8 weeks in some for full recovery (walking without any discomfort)
After the procedure follow up is needed, this may vary from one center to the next but in general may be first at 1 month then 3 months then 6 months then yearly.
Though the procedure is generally safe, possible complications include infection, pain , bleeding.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
