Brief Answer:

Syringomyelia explained.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Syringomyelia is an excess of cerebrospinal fluid buildup inside the spinal cord caused mainly by conditions that affect the circulation of the cerebrospinal fluid.

Chiari malformation is one of the common conditions associated with syringomyelia.

Other conditions include trauma, hemorrhage, meningitis, tumors, arachnoiditis.

If left untreated syringomyelia and its associated symptoms progress over time by increasing the pressure on the spinal cord.

Treatment depends on the cause, is mainly surgical and aims to relieve the pressure on the spinal cord and restore a normal circulation of the cerebrospinal fluid.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
