Question: Hi doctor, my 5 yr son has been suffering from semi solid stool with slight blood stain sometimes. Stool report says Ecoli, Bacteria++, RBC Nil, Mucus present, Pus cell 6-8 HPF. 2-3 times antibiotics have been given over a period of 4-5 months. He's on Zinc, and Probiotics consistently for last couple of months. Still problem persists.. No significant improvement. Some times my son complains of stomach pain. Also done Ultrasonography which has shown everything normal. Pls suggest further course of action

Brief Answer:
Could be milk allergy

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Based on your description,,it could be few of these possibilities
1. Infection- common in this age group , usually water or food borne . Should respond to current treatment you are giving including antibiotics, probiotics and zinc
2. Cows milk protein allergy . You can get blood test for this ( cows milk specific Ig E ) . Stopping cows milk and dairy products for a few months may help in controlling this .
3. Lactose intolerance - get stool for reducing substance. If positive, stop cows milk for 2 weeks
Discuss these with your Pediatrician who can guide you as per clinical evaluation
Regards
Dr Arun
