What Is The Recommended Protein Consumption Level For A 18 Month Old Child?
Question: My son is 18 mos old and will only eat meat these days. I know theoretically he needs only about 13 or 14 grams of protein per day. Is there an upper limit?
Brief Answer:
13 gm is the recommended value
Detailed Answer:
Hello
13 gm of protein intake per day is the recommended value by XXXXXXX academy of pediatrics for this age.
About 15 percent of total energy is fulfilled by protein intake and that is equivalent of about 25-30 gm per day for this age.
But as it has been seen that high protein intake in this age may lead to future obesity it is important to curb them down to at least 15-20 gm per day.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Thank you, does this protein intake include protein from milk? He gets about 16 oz but that alone equals 16 gm of protein. This would have to be separate or he could no meat at all, yes?
Brief Answer:
You may give meat also, better cut the amount of milk if possible
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for follow up
You are very right that the amount of protein in 16 Oz of milk is approximately 16 gm.
The recommended dose of protein in this age is about 13-15 gm. The protein content of meat is very high as only 100 gm of meat contains about 25 gm of protein. Other food material used in daily routine also contains some amount of protein.
So here I would suggest you to gradually cut down the amount of milk consumed and to give other source of protein like meat.
