What Is The Recovery Time For Hysterectomy?

default
Posted on Mon, 8 Sep 2014
Question: Good Evening. I had a hysterectomy on Mon., July 21, 2014. I thought I had 6 weeks of Short Term Disabilty/Recovery, but I may have to return to work On Mon., August 18th instead of Sept. 2nd. I still haven't had my post -op appt. (scheduled August 20th ... go figure, lol). Long story short, I think I should purchase a hysterectomy girdle for some support. Just slightly nervous about returning 2 weeks early. Thanks :-)

P.S. My incision had turned into a small keloid (re-opened bikini incision from partial hysterectomy in 2000.) Neosporin is soothing for now. Also taking Estroven. That's all.

Brief Answer:
better to rest for minimum 6 weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I went through your query and understood your concerns.

After hysterectomy better to take 6 weeks rest. Healing of surgical wound needs minimum 6 weeks of rest, Disturbance in suture delays healing and strength of wound reduces. You can return to your work (if its necessary)but you should be very careful at your work, should avoid lifting heavy weights and sudden bending.

Hysterectomy girdle is to support your abdominal muscles, useful in case of abdominal hysterectomy or laproscopic hysterectomy. not much useful in vaginal hysterectomy.

Post operative examination of wound is necessary to check for its healing process. Better to get examined by your doctor

Hope i answered your query. Feel free to ask further related query.

Wish you a good health.
