What Is The Risk Of Infection To Fetus When Exposed To Neisseria Meningitidis Infection?
Question: hi! i am 19 weeks pregnant and my mother in law got a call from the doctor that she works for saying that she was exposed to neisseria meningitidis. i was around her 3 days since the exposure and my fiancee even ate after her. The patient that she worked on was a 1 yr old. is my baby in danger since i was around her before she knew she was exposed? do i need to get on antibiotics or be treated??
Brief Answer:
no antibiotics now
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I can understand your concerns.
The chances of your baby getting any harm because of this is very less.
As of now do not take any antibiotics as they themself are harmful in pregnancy.
The best thing now is to monitor for any symptoms in you or your mother in law.
If anyone develops symptoms of neisseria then you have to start treatment.
Nothing else to be done now
