What Is The Treatment For Epididymis?
Information
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,
The type of antibiotic used depends on the bacteria that is causing the problem. Different antibiotics kill or limit the growth of different types of bacteria.
In young men who are or have been sexually active, the most common cause of epididymitis is an STD (sexually transmitted disease). So culturing for this is an important first step. If you can't get in to see your doctor soon, go to an urgent care clinic where they can do both a urinalysis and urine culture as well as screen for STDs. Then they can give you the appropriate antibiotic, for the appropriate length of time, based on what the cause of the infection is.
I hope this answers your question. I'm sorry I can't say specifically what medication you should have until this is checked out and diagnosed.
I want to take levofloxacin for 10 or 15 days and then visit a doctor to see if am okay
another doctor recommended me lbuprofen vitamine C because my immunity due to expressive masturbation is possibly low
whst do you recommend i have an appointment with doctor in 25 days
Information
Detailed Answer:
Vitamin C in moderation would not hurt so that is ok.
The other two main causes of epididymitis are urinary tract infection (usually seen in younger males but still possible) and prostate problems or prostatitis (usually seen in older males due to enlarged prostates).
Again, it is not standard care in the US to just prescribe an antibiotic without first knowing what we are dealing with. Levofloxacin comes with a "black box" warning because of serious risk of side effects. These side effects, such as tendon rupture, are not that common, but we don't like to prescribe this if the risk-benefit ratio does not indicate that it would be necessary.
I also do not think it would be a good idea to wait a month if there is infection present. That is why I recommended going in to an urgent care clinic where they can get specimens sent for culture. If/when you go in, I recommend requesting to see a physician and not a PA or NP as a physician has more adequate training.
Information
Detailed Answer:
A physician is a medical doctor (as opposed to a physician's assistant which is called a PA, or a nurse practitioner which is called an NP).
So I just mean you should be seen by a real doctor and not someone with less training.
No, not a pathologist or urologist in urgent care.
Detailed Answer:
Hi -
No, in the urgent care your only choices are a general doctor (who is usually a family practice doctor or an internal medicine doctor) or PA, NP.
You will not get to see a specialist such as a pathologist or urologist in the urgent care clinic.
