Whenever there is allergic reaction due to any cause then histamine(a neurotransmitter) is released which causes symptoms like itching, redness, swelling, etc. So in such cases anti-histamine medicines are given. If anyone has recurrent problem then such persons are advised to keep OTC anti-histamine meds with himself so that if such problem occurs then immediate counter can be achieved. Epe-pen contains epinephrine(adrenaline) which is also used in case of allergic reactions. Epi-pen requires a prescription to get. I mentioned cetirizine only because of its easy availability. You can ask your local doctor to give you prescription for epi-pen and you can keep both the epi-pen and prescription so that you do not find difficulty while travelling to china.
