What Is The Treatment Given If The Shoulder Dislocates For A Couple Of Minutes While Stretching?
Question: I my left shoulder had reverse replacement Feb. 2017. It has been doing great. But last week I put both arms up straight and it hurt so I stopped, that was in swim yoga class. Then the next morning, I did my usual morning stretch in bed but it went out of its socket to the right for 2 minutes and the pain was excruciating.
The shoulder dr,s office said it may have been dislocated. I will get an X-ray on Wed. What would they do for that? They told me wear a sling til then. For joint replacement or shoulder orthopedic dr
What will dr want to do? Hopefully No surgery

Brief Answer:
Usually surgery is not needed in such cases.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
From the description provided it seems that your shoulder is displaced out of the socket. Since this has happened for the first time, usually the displacement is reduced under anesthesia and the arm is kept in a sling to allow any capsular tear to heal on its own in 3-4 weeks. Usually surgery is not needed unless any major damage to the rotator cuff is present. In case the dislocation is recurrent then surgical correction may be needed.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
