What Is The Vile Of Restasis Discarded After Single Use?
Question: I've been using Restasis and I would like to know why you have to discard the vile immediately after use. I checked the content of a vile and there are 14 drops and your are applying only one drop in each eye so you are throwing away 12 drops. This is a very expensive product and you would think that there would be a better way of dispensing in order to reduce the cost. They say that the reason you have to discard after each application is that Restasis formula has no preservative. Regular artificial tears have preservatives, why can't Restasis also have them .
Brief Answer:
To avoid risk of infection, it is not reused
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to HCM.
Restasis is immunosuppressive agent, it contains Cyclosporine.
I do understand your concern, but as it is immunosuppressive agent, high degree of sterile environment need to be maintained.
Dropper is sterile, if it is reused, there are chances of contamination, which can cause serious infection in the eye, do it is advised not to reuse it.
Hope this helped.
Take care.
