What Kind Of Symptoms Should You Look For When Diagnosed With CAA?

default

Question: what kind of symptoms should you look for when someone has been diagnosed with CAA. My brother-in-law was diagnosed with it last September and is exhibiting behaviours that have us concerned, yet we have had no help or advice in what to expect over time due to his condition.
Are there any behaviours that occur with this condition that are obvious (ie: mood changes from mild to extreme) that can be linked to CAA? Is there cognitive decline that is not always evident at the start?

Brief Answer:
CAA may cause cognitive impairment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have read your question.

Cerebral amyloid angiopathy ( CAA ) is often asymptomatic.

CAA also may lead to dementia, intracranial hemorrhage (ICH), or transient neurologic events.

Intracranial hemorrhage is the most possible result of CAA, dementia also is a common feature of it.

So, in your brother’s case, if there are cognitive symptoms ( including mood changes) they are linked most likely to CAA.

Hope you found the answer helpful.
