Brief Answer:
It depends if its chronic or acute kidneys failure.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

It depends if we are talking about chronic or acute kidneys failure.

In case of chronic kidneys failure, creatinine level higher than 5 mg/dl indicates stage IV kidneys failure. This is the worst stage and the most dangerous. But not the creatitinine itself is a problem. It is only an indicator of kidneys function. In case of bad kidneys function you can get high potassium level what can be directly life threatening. Long lasting kidneys failure leads to heart failure and atherosclerosis.

In case of acute kidneys failure, any creatinine level above the referential range is dangerous (usually above 1,2 - 1,5 mg/dl). In this condition creatinine level grows rapidly and if the condition wont be reversed, can lead to quick death. Most common reason for acute kidneys failure is dehydration (in case of diarrhea and vomiting).

Hope this will help. Feel free to as further questions.
Regards.
