Posted on Thu, 2 Jan 2025
Question: Hi Doc, I did medical test for my life insurance. In the Urine test my Protein level came high. Post that my family doc asked me to do Blood and Urine test again. My blood test was normal however in my urine test my protein level was high and it read 0.3g/L . There was moderate blood in urine in the report. My Albumin/Creatinnie ratio was 26.4 mg/mmol. Looking at this report my GP asked me to do 24 hour urine test. In this 24 hour test , my Albumin/Creatinnie ratio was 343mg/d and my micro Albumin/Creatinnie ratio was 19.2mg/mmol . In the same test my RBC was 3-5/hpf . I would request if someone can do diagnosis and provide consultation on what possible could be cause of these readings and what line of treatment i should approach. I am 38 year old with decent health condition with no diabetes or hypertension. I am on bulky side and i do see my weight has increased by 4-5 kgs & not sure the reason for the weight increase.

Brief Answer:
Sounds like nephritic syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Hi A,

To me this sounds like nephritic syndrome. It can be caused by streptococcus infection, lupus, vasculitis, etc. The next would typically be nephrologic consultation and kidney biopsy. Treatment is often symptomatic and possibly corticosteroids in case of lupus nephritis or vasculitis.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have further questions.

Hi Doc, thanks for the reply. I have Nephrologist appointment on May 14th and will be doing another blood & urine test in a weeks time. Nephritic syndrome , is it curable disease or can be managed only. Should i be concerned with the current diagnosis.
