What Might Be The Cause And Possible Treatment Skin Rashes?
Question: Hi,
I have a skin issue which started on my ankles about 8 months ago in winter. The skin is dark and itchy. It appears to have spread up the leg during the warmer climate.
There are small dots or patches on the skin. What might be the cause and possible treatment? I have attached a few photos. Could the condition be possibly fungal in nature?
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Contact dermatitis
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query and photographs.
It looks like contact dermatitis, a type of allergic reaction.
It is not a fungal infection.
Apply a mild steroid lotion such as cortisone or desonide daily in night for 15 days.
Apply a moisturizer daily in night for a month.
This combination should be helpful.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX
Thank you for the advice.
I have seen a GP who has prescribed Diprosone for twice daily application and Lamisil daily in case of fungal cause. The condition appears to be improving slowly but I am unsure if a stronger steroid cream for short applications would work better than a milder steroid cream over a longer period of time in preventing recurrence of the condition.
Regards.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the follow up.
Diprosone is a super potent steroid.
You must not use it for more than a week.
After one week change over to ointment mometasone for 15 days followed by desonide lotion daily for another 15 days.
Lamisil has no role as it is definitely not fungal infection.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you
