What Must I Do About Abdominal Cramps, Pink Mucus Discharge Followed By Dark Blood Clots Discharge?
It sounds perfectly benign
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Although distressing, what you describe sounds completely benign. Usually, fresh blood (including clots) is indicative of a lower gastrointestinal bleeding, e.g. hemorrhoids, diverticula or angiodysplasia. The cramping you describe could also indicate infectious colitis. Cancer should however always be excluded. Provided that you have not undergone a full colonoscopy in the last 10 years, this would in my opinion be the next step.
In the acute phase, the most important thing is to look for signs of anemia and low blood volume, e.g. low urine production, dizziness, fatigue, pallor, chest pain. If you take anticoagulant medication, you should not take them as long as you bleed. The bleeding will usually stop on its own, but keep hydrated using water, lemonade, juice, etc.
Hope this is helpful.
