Question: My friend fell out of bed and received an upward blow to the area just below his eyebrow. some stitches in the cut, and he says he suffered a concussion. I think the sinus in the forehead may have been impacted. What precautions would I take regarding this concussion and cut.?

Brief Answer:
Regarding concussion, watch for symptoms

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

If your friend is active and not demonstrating any symptoms of head injury, then no further action is needed. You may watch for symptoms like drowsiness, headache, irritability, nausea, vomiting, confusion, problem with speech and loss of consciousness.

If any of these are present, then there may be internal injury to the brain. In such cases, a visit to the ER is needed. If sinus is impacted, then there maybe bleeding or fluid discharge from the nose. An X-ray may rule out sinus impaction.

If these symptoms are not present, then the injury is mild and will heal by itself.

Regarding the cut, the skin will take 2-3 weeks to join. If any medicines are prescribed, then these are to be taken accordingly. We can watch for any signs of infection or pus. We can also take the opinion of a plastic surgeon so that there is no big mark of the stitches. The area must be kept clean and dry. The doctor may change the dressing in a few days or after 1 week.

Hope I have answered your query.

Thank you.
