What Schedule Of Anti-rabies Vaccination Is Recommended After A Dog Bite?
Question: Hi, 3 days ago I have been bitten by a dog so started to Anti-Rabies treatment by Vaccine. My doctor said I must take vaccine twice, 0 and 7 days after. However, why there is different schedules of post-exposure Rabies vaccines? According to WHO, 0 and 3 days after accident is recommended. According to British governmental website, 0 and 3 to 7 days is recommended. Is there difference depends on the countries/area?
Brief Answer:
Different authorities may have different recommendations.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
Recommendations some times varies between authorities as these are based on different studies. If your pre-exposure vaccination was reliable then two injections after post exposure is sufficient. If you want to be absolutely sure, then you could do an anti rabies antibodies titre. In your case it should be more than 0.5 IU/ml. If for some reason it is less than that, a full course of post exposure vaccination should be carried out.
Do get back to me if you have further queries.

My pre-exposure vaccine (three times, based on reliable schedule) is 100% reliable. So in this case, I don't need to take "anti rabies antibodies titre", right? Or even though I took pre-exposure vaccines three times, if I am worried, I should take an anti rabies antibodies titre?
Brief Answer:
No need as the pre exposure vaccination is reliable.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the feedback.
Since your pre exposure vaccination was reliable only boosters are required.
Wish you good health and a great day
