What Should I Do When My Anxiety Is Through The Roof About An Enlarged Spleen And Gallstones?

Posted on Mon, 11 Jul 2022
Question: During an X-ray my spleen looked enlarged so they did a sonogram. Spleen was 15cm and liver was normal size but they found gallstones but said they weren’t blocking anything. Dr said she did multiple blood tests and nothing came back abnormal but that I had low lymphocytes, they attributed that to steroids i had been on for sinus infection. My anxiety is through the roof about this any reassurance this isn’t something horrible?

Brief Answer:
Silent stone in gallbladder should always be removed to be on safe side.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I would suggest you to go for removal of gall bladder through a planned laparoscopic surgery. Silent stones are very dangerous; Bile duct is connected to common bile duct which ends into pancreatic duct. If some how the stone slips into this pancreatic duct it can cause acute pancreatitis (which is a very serious condition).

If we go by book silent stones should not be touched but practically they should be removed by planned laparoscopic surgery. As such gallbladder has a very little use in functioning of body.

Hope I provided you with correct information. Follow up are welcome.

Brief Answer:
Doctors treat symptoms and not the numbers.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

11 to 13 cm is normal size of spleen .An enlarged spleen can be caused by infections, cirrhosis and other liver diseases, blood diseases characterized by abnormal blood cells, problems with the lymph system, or other conditions. All tests in your case are normal ,So mild enlargement of spleen has no significance secondly it could be a variation also(11 to 13cm is a standard size but its not always there in every case).
Unless symptomatic or tests are abnormal. Nothing to worry about.

Brief Answer:
Follow up answer.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Any cancer involving spleen would be reflected with deranged blood tests and ultrasound.
If you want to be 100% sure you can go for a MRI spleen.
If its normal nothing is to be done.
Clonazepam has nothing to do with spleen.

Thanks.

Thank you for all of your answers. So breast cancer or ovarian cancer or lung or others don’t enlarge the spleen? I have an appointment next week just trying to put my mind at ease.

Ok thank you, I have already been to my primary care and she didn’t seem one bit worried. But my high anxiety has set in and I feel pains all over.

Brief Answer:
Take my words its not cancer.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

First site if metastasis of breast cancers are the sentinel lymph nodes located in your arm pits. Once it crosses it then only it would reach spleen. Lung cancer would initially present as a nodule in X-ray. See it could be due to any cause but every cancer has its initial signs followed by less common signs or migratory sites.
So take deep breath. Calm yourself. Follow up with what your primary doctor says.

Thanks.
