What Should I Do When My Blood Pressure Readings Have Come High Twice In A Row?
Question: Hello, I am 48 years old female 5 foot 1 inches and weigh 52kg. I have had two readings of blood pressure. the first was three days ago at work and it was 159/96. Today on the weekend when I don't work I brought a blood pressure monitor from the chemist. After resting when I got home I used the new blood pressure monitor and the reading was 153/99. Should I be concerned and should I inform my GP.Thank's for your time and assistance.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
I have gone carefully through your concern.
The blood pressure you reported is high for your age, of course you have to inform your GP,but to be sure that is a chronic hypertension, we usually recommend to monitor the blood pressure for 2 weeks , three times a day.
If it persists over 120/80 mm/hg, treatment should be started.
Of course your treating physician may ask for further examinations if he thinks that a hormonal dis balance is the cause of the high blood pressure. But a clinical examination would be helpful before.
Hope the information will help.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
