What Should Be Done After Accidental Ingestion Of Dettol By A Child?
Question: My nearly 2 year old drank roughly 50-100ml of dettol about 5-10 minutes ago. I rang local doctor as soon as it happened and was told to give mylanta but I can't get him to drink it. What do I do?
Brief Answer:
Immediately take him to emergency room
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
I would suggest you to take him to the neareby emergency room as early as possible. When taken in large amount it can cause aspiration, chocking, breathing difficulty, damage to kidney and brain.
Don't try to induce vomiting as it may further increases the risk of aspiration and chocking.
Dettol is soluble in oral liquid paraffin. If you have paraffin give 15-20 ml of liquid paraffin . Mylanta is an antacid and it will help only in intestinal symptoms.
Even in the absence of symptoms get him to the ER.
Wish him all good health
Regards
