What Should Be Done After Injury In The Ribs Area Which Has Intensified To Symptoms Of Abdominal Cramps And Blood In Stool?
Adequate pain relief, lower GI bleed unlikely to be related to rib fracture
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
In case of a rib fracture, adequate pain relief has to be ensured. If despite the medication, NSAIDs, hot tub etc there is inadequate relief then a local inter costal nerve block should be considered to prevent secondary atelectasis as a complication.
The GI bleed as a result of the trauma is unlikely. Stool routine examination plus ova / parasite can be advised after local examination/ digital rectal exam to determine the cause. Some medication can lead to hard stool that may erode the anal mucosa resulting in a lower GI bleed. Stool softeners and laxatives can be advised in that case, in consultation with your doctor.
Wishing you best of health
Thanks
