What Should Be Done If A Fetus Has Multiple Congenital Anomalies?
As per OBGYN advise.I have discontinued the pregnancy as the fetus had MCA. The second TORCH test will be taken after two weeks as prescribed.
I am confused and scared seeing the earlier TORCH results. Is there any problem for me as per the results? I’m very much worried and stressed a lot. Is the term Negative and Non reactive are same ? Positive and reactive are same. Pls help me.
TORCH blood results :

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.
I regularly do ultrasound scans during pregnancy and have come across problems like the one you have. It is advisable to discontinue a pregnancy if there are multiple congenital anomalies and if the TORCH panel is showing positive results then there is more reason to stop the pregnancy.
Replying to your query in detail, a Non Reactive result means that the blood sample given by you did not show any positive reaction to the testing antibodies, in other words Non Reactive is the same as negative.
A Reactive or positive TORCH test simply means the patient has positive antibody levels against that particular infection and the patient might be having the infection.
From above results, you are positive for
(i) Rubella – IgG : Reactive [374.4] - Ref Range : Reactive : > 10 IU/ml
(II) CMV- IgG : Reactive [More than 114.7 ] - Ref Range : Reactive : > 6.0 AU/ml
(iii) HSV 1+2 – IgG : Positive [151.2 ] - Ref Range : Positive : > 22 RU/ml
The presence of IgG antibody in a pregnant woman can mean a past infection. Typically, a second blood test is ordered for two weeks later so the antibody levels can be compared. If levels go up, the infection was recent and you may have to wait and discuss with your doctor before when to have the next pregnancy.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
