What Should One Do About Severe Persistent Nose Bleeds Despite Nasal Packing?
Question: My 98 year old grand mother gets severe nose bleeds , she had a nasal packing in and today had it removed and it kept bleeding they repacked it again . What is the next step if is still bleeding in two days when they remove the packing
Brief Answer:
Revision of the medications and blood pressure levels and platelets count.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
She needs further evaluation of the causes of bleeding. Probably she is taking a blood thinning medication that is causing it. In this case lowering the dose is advisable. Also, she needs to do a total blood count and platelets count. If she is suffering from hypertension, she should keep it within normal ranges. Keep her hydrated giving fluids.
