What Sleeping Aids Could I Consider That Works Well With Amiodarone And Eliquis?

Question: I just had an ablation and am taking amiodarone and Eliquis during the recovery period. For over a week, I have been suffering bad insomnia. I have tried good sleep habit behavior and can’t seem to make progress. Magnesium seems to help a bit, but I am thinking I may need to try some sort of sleeping/anxiety pills. The problem is that it seems amiodarone does not interact well with many/most sleeping aids. What sleeping aids could I consider that works well with amiodarone and Eliquis?
Brief Answer:
I would explain as follows:
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
I understand your concern and would like to suggest taking Melatonin 2 before sleep. It would help improving your sleep quality in a natural manner. It may be used up to several months until you will feel better.
In addition, it is well tolerated and has no adverse interaction with your actual therapy (Amiodarone and Eliquis).
Hope to have been helpful to you!

About 3 years ago I had my first bout with insomnia. At that time I started to take 3mg melatonin (extended release). This helped, and so I just continued to take it, and still take it today. But now that I am in a new bout with insomnia, the melatonin is not helping. First, I am worried that taking melatonin for so long may have made it impossible for me to quit taking it. Does taking melatonin for 3 years affect the body in such a way that it stops producing its own melatonin? Secondly, since I am already taking melatonin, is there anything else I might be able to take with amiodarone/eliquis/melatonin? Just started to deal with this insomina using some CBT techniques, but want to have a backup in case I need to jumpstart the sleeping cycle. Thirdly, amiodarone can impact the thyroid, which can cause anxiety and insomnia for some people. My doctor has said it is too soon to check on thyroid because I have only been taking amiodarone since October 5th. I am wondering whether I should do a blood and thyroid checkup?

My opinion as follows:
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
It seems that melatonin at this dose is not helpful. Coming to this point I recommend increasing the dose of melatonin up to 10 mg daily.
Another option is valerian supplements before sleep, alone or in combination with melatonin. These supplements are safe to be taken concomitantly with your current heart therapy.
Regarding thyroid, I would recommend checking every 6 months your thyroid hormone levels, although it is too early.
Hope you will find this information helpful!
