What Type Of Behavioral Disorder Are We Looking At With Symptoms Like Occasional Depression, Antisocial Behavior, Disturbed Sleep And Anger Outbursts?

Question: My son is 25 yrs old. He does not have any friends. Never had a steady girlfriend. He always thinks people are out to screw him. Trust issues. He uses alcohol and substances to self medicate on a daily basis. He has trouble sleeping. he tends to hold everything inside until he explodes. Occasionally depressed. Locks himself in his room and binge watches TV. Swears he has certain conversations that we cannot recall. Manic Depressive. And NOTHING is ever HIS fault. What type of Behavioral Disorder are we looking at.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.
I'm sorry your son is going through this. The FIRST order of business is to treat the alcohol and drug use. It is impossible to identify or treat any mood disorder (depression, bipolar disorder) or behavioral problem until your son is clean from drugs and alcohol. If he is unwilling to seek treatment now on his own, I would stage an intervention, where any friends and family who are concerned about him sit down with him as a group and discuss their concern and his need for inpatient rehab.
