What Would Be Causing Faint Snores From My Throat That I Am Aware Of Which Is Making Me To Go To Sleep So Many Times?
The issue started briefly a week Ago. I am overweight with a BMI of around 28 (working on loosing weight though). When I try to sleep I hear faint snore voices from my throat particularly during transition phase between being awake and being sleep. I am aware of these sounds I believe from my throat / softpalette. They are soft in nature some times like soft snores. I do not gasp or choke on breathing.
Once I fall asleep this doesnt bother any more and my sleep is decent.
I did visit Neurologist and ENT. Neurologist did put me on Clonezpam 0.25+ propronolol 20mg. ENT did examine me. Mentioned I had Alergy and gave medication and Nose spray steriod for the same. Mentioned it could be sleep Apenea as well
I had been using them for 3-4 days and there are no drastic improvements seen.
My question would be
1. What would be causing faint snores from my throat that I am aware of which is making me to go to sleep so many times.
2. Could this be related to ENT or a neurology problem that I am dealing with
3. When I sleep for 7-8 hours I do not have much daytime sleepyness or neither I am gasping or choking for breath. I am not sure if this is sleep apnea preseting this way
Please help
Relaxation of the muscles of the soft palate and the tongue: root cause
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting the query
I have gone through your query and understood your problem.
1. What would be causing faint snores from my throat that I am aware of which is making me to go to sleep so many times.
A: Relaxation of the muscles of the soft palate and the tongue causes falling back of the former and latter leading to partial or complete obstruction of the back of the nose and throat. This causes narrowing of the space and result in snoring when the air passes through this obstruction.
2. Could this be related to ENT or a neurology problem that I am dealing with.
A: This is a predominantly ENT/pulmonology-related issue requiring thorough evaluation and management.
3. When I sleep for 7-8 hours I do not have much daytime sleepyness or neither I am gasping or choking for breath. I am not sure if this is sleep apnea preseting this way
A: I doubt it to be sleep apnea. Snoring can lead to sleep apnea if left untreated.
I hope this answers your query. Kindly revert to me if you have any other follow-up queries. I would be glad to help you.

Thanks for your response
I had reached out to ENT. Had a very mild Deviated septum and was mentioned that there is alergy inside my nose. Given antibiotics and Nasal spray steriod. Its been a week I am using that I feel ok .
i am also working on loosing weight. Please let me know if you have any recommendations for me to avoid this issue in the future
Weight loss treatment and exercises would help in reducing the snoring.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Pruthvi
Welcome back
1. Mild septal deviation would not cause snoring. If there is a nasal block due to the enlargement of the nasal turbinates, then steroid spray would help in reducing the snoring to a certain extent.
2. Losing weight is a good idea, but at the same length, you need to do exercises to build the tone of the musculature, which would be highly beneficial in reducing snoring.
3. Avoid coffee; drink frequent sips of water to keep the mucosa moist.
I hope this clarifies your doubts. I wish you good health.
With warm regards
