Question: All of my husband’s blood tests indicate he is “fine” but he has lost weight, muscle, appetite, memory loss, and extreme irritability or angry rants about things from decades ago or about people that he hasn’t seen in a long time. He will talk to one of sons on the phone and then call him the next day and ask about what’s going on? I’m frightened, I’m angry the way that he talks to our children and grandchildren, he is so mean, which is abnormal for him.

Brief Answer:
Brain conditions to consider as well.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Besides blood tests, in order to evaluate correctly changes in behavior, structural lesions of the brain, should be investigated further.

A neurological examination and brain imaging such MRI are necessary to detect or exclude conditions such tumors, vascular malformations, stroke, etc.

Also dementias or mild cognitive impairment may manifest with such behavior changes initially.

Discuss with your husband's Neurologist about these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
