What Would Low Platelet Count And 'mild Thrombocytopenia With Some Large Platelets' Mentioned In A Blood Test Indicate?
Question: Hi doctor I hope you are doing well , my question regarding CBC test , my results all are normal except the platelets count is 131 and reference rang is 150 to 450 and the report says mild thrombocytopenia with some large platelets are seen and rest all are ok . So is that lukimea or other blood cancer and what other tests shall I do ?? I have had Thyriod cancer micro paiplary and all up to now no evidence of disease and all test are fine . Please advise best regards XXXXXXX

Since your cbc test is showing mild thrombocytopenia and platelet is around 131 but giant platelets are present there is nothing to worry.
You are not having leukemia or blood cancer and presence of giant platelets indicates your platelet count is absolutely normal as sometimes normal sized platelets bind together to form giant platelet which may cause platelet count to be on the lower side
Since your other parameters in cbc test is normal there is nothing to worry and you do not have leukemia or blood cancer

Hi doctor, thanks a lot for you answer, I attached two report the first one and yesterday I asked for the film as you can see the gaint cells are not there and the payletes is increase from 131 to 138. So doctor please advise me is that good sign and what is it indicate ? Is the low platelets could be on my case related to viral infection ?? And could it comes back to normal? Please advise . Your latest platelet report on 9/5/18 is 138 which is that not low.
People with mild thrombocytopenia may not need treatment and it comes back to normal on its own.
Viral infection does not cause low platelet
However if you want to increase its count then you need to take corticosteroid group of drugs with your doctors advise.
