Question: Hi. I’m weaning off Valium. On 5mg a week at the moment. I’m ok for most days but every now and then I have a really crappy day where. Feel really sick, nauseous and just a yuck feeling. Don’t feel like I want to vomit though. What’s something I can take to help n the bad days?

Brief Answer:
Antihistamines can be used

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I read your query and understand your concerns.

First of all I am glad to know that you are weaning off valium which is a great step in maintenance of positive health.

In regard to difficulties encountered by you I think one of the below strategies can help you.
1. Slow down the process of weaning. Instead of tapering dose of valium every 7-10 days, decrease the dose by every two weeks.

2. During difficult times try to use antihistamines such as 10/25 mg of hydroxyzine or 10/25 mg of promethazine. These are available over the counter in the most countries and can be of great help for you.

I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks.

Ok thanks. This will make me sleepy? What about during the day.
I’m finding it hard to tell my doctor to go slower in the weaning process. He’s wants to do it quicker.
What about CBD? I know if I take take it for long periods it can effect my because I take citalopram.
Will CBD interact with ondansetron?
Any vitamins? Or drinks that can help?

Hello,
Thanks for follow up.

It is true that antihistamines cause sedation in some individuals and in that case it will be appropriate to use lower dose.

I also feel that you need to tell your doctor what is bothering you and you are finding it difficult to process on faster pace. I do not feel CBD is the answer as you are committed for lower pill burden and in this case going slower will be more appropriate.

Regarding vitamins there is no such data but maintenance of proper hydration may work wonders for you and it is encouraged.
I hope this helps you further.
Thanks and regards

Thank you. Will the antihistamines interact with my citalopram? Also had some maxolon and ondansetron today?
It will be ok if I had a low dose of antihistamines during the day, won’t make me too sleepy?

Brief Answer:
No significant interaction with suggested medications

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for follow up.

The interaction between citalopram and suggested antihistamines is insignificant and likely to remain insignificant for you as the added medications will be used for on need basis only.
In addition since the ondansetron and maxolon have no effect so far they can be omitted for time being.

I hope this helps you further.
Thanks again

Ok thanks. Just tested myself for Covid and I’m positive, so think that’s why I’ve been feeling bad over the last couple days.
I’ll have the antihistamines when needed

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for follow up.

Antihistamines can be taken on need basis and there is no limit during the withdrawal period. However since you are tested positive for covid, it could be the cause for your symptoms there may not be need for use of antihistamine medications.

With available information about Covid you are requested to follow your doctor as online advice may not be sufficient and undue delay can cause severe compromise in your health.

I hope this helps you further.
Thanks and regards.
