When An X Ray Is Overexposed One Sign Is Image

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Apr 2020
Question: When an x ray is overexposed one sign is image saturation (either the pixels in an area of the image are pure white or pure black). In newer radiography white does NOT mean underexposure. So my question in is there any other reason than overexposure that image saturation (pure white area or pureblack area of pixels in image) might occur?

Brief Answer:
Can be due to patient movement, calcification or overlapping of structures

Hi...
Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.

Oversaturation in X-ray might be due to a motion artifact (patient movement during shooting causing an image distortion), local calcification deposits, superimposition of two structures, foreign body like jewelry or metal objects, improper handling of the film, improper functioning of the machine especially the X-ray tube, voltage variations, persistent latent image from previous exposure on the next one or due to large signal drop.

Hope that I have answered your query.

Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Warm regards.
