Posted on Mon, 11 Jul 2022
Question:
Hello Doctor,
As per your advice I had reduced Nexium 40mg t0 Nexium 20mg and have stopped Itopride. However, I have been taking the digestive enzyme tablet alongwith Nexium 20mg for the past 10-12 days. I am continuing Acotiamide for the past 2 months.

I feel good so far and dont feel anything wrong after I had reduced my dose.
Please let me know if I should continue or alter my dosage.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Ok. Now I would like to shift you from Nexium to Ranitidine. It is a H2 blocker. While Nexium blocks the over as well as baseline production of acid; Ranitidine would only suppress the excessive acid production and is more safe in long runs.

So Sir New Rx is
150ml of ice cold milk in morning.
Rantidine 300mg one tablet at 9 a.m.
Stop nexium (lets see how your body responds to light drug (rantidine).
Continue taking acotiamide (complete the full course) and digestive supplements.
150ml chilled milk in night before sleep.

Follow up after 10 days.

Hope you get better well soon.

Thanks Doctor for your advice.
Is Rantidine and Rantac the same? Do you get this 300 mg in India? I think you get only 150mg. Shall check anyways. Can I know how many tablets should I stock since I have some one travelling tomorrow and I will ask him to buy.

On the chilled milk early morning, is it to be taken in empty stomach soon as I wake up?
And can the Ranitidine be taken after breakfast at 9 a.m.?

Another clarification is whether I am allowed to take alcohol or wine in limited quantities on a daily basis for around 2-3 weeks during holidays, since I am travelling to Europe next month.

Thanks for your advice as usual.

Thank you Doctor.

I shall buy 6 strips of rantidine 150 mg then and take your instruction whenever i take alcohol. Is it fine taking medicines before or after consuming alcohol. I usually skip my night medications if I take alcohol. I drink only when I travel on holidays. No to alcohol otherwise.

Thank you again.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Yes, Rantac is trade name of ranitidine. In case you can't find 300mg take 2 tablets of 150mg asap.
3 strips of 300mg would be good.

Yes soon after you wake up you can take ice cold milk 100-150 ml. It is alkaline in nature and acts as a good natural acid buffering agent.

Ranitidine can be taken either before or after breakfast.
The day you take alcohol. An hour before take Nexium 40 mg one tablet and one tablet of Levosulpiride / Itopiride.

Regards and enjoy your trip.
