When Does Hypothyroidism Treatment Start Showing Its Effect?
Depends on medications, dosage, and level
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX and welcome.
Thank you for writing to us.
I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help.
That completely depends on the following ma'am, I shall explain it in an elaborate manner for your better understanding:
-Thyroid values: Symptoms of hypothyroidism appear due to a drop in the thyroid profile levels, and so if this level is corrected and values are within normal range, the symptoms will disappear. So it depends on your current levels and the dose of medications you have been advised to approximately predict by when your thyroid profile will normalise
-Medication and dosage: Depending on which medication has been prescribed and what dosage has been prescribed to you to help with regularisation of your thyroid values, we can predict by when your symptoms should start subsiding
But in my opinion, as soon as the medications are initiated the thyroid levels start approaching near-normal values and symptoms should start subsiding within 7-10 days time ma'am. You should soon observe the improvement yourself. You could also write back to me with the name of the medications, the dosage, and the last measured thyroid values.
I hope you find my response helpful ma'am. I am sure you shall soon observe the improvement yourself and return to a normal symptom-free life. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at any time. I am always available to help ma'am.
Best wishes.
You are quite right; mixed feelings about supplemn
Detailed Answer:
Hello once again XXXXXXX
I can relate all your symptoms to menopause/pre-menopause and an under active thyroid, so you are quite right about it yourself.
Do not worry ma'am, your thyroid issues should stabilise soon with the help of medications, be patient and I am sure all will go well.
As for the supplements, there are two important facts I would like to state:
1. The t-balance supplement contains vitamins and herbs (source-ayurveda). Being of XXXXXXX origin, and knowing much about these herbs, I would like you to know that there is a world-wide drug control and release association, which tests all drugs on different levels before releasing them into the market for use by consumers. But, all herbs and ayurveda origin supplements are not tested before marketing and being made available to the consumers. This is important because we cannot really comment or predict its side effects. Because of this, I would not feel comfortable prescribing the same to any of my patients. Anything I do not know about, I would not market.
So please think twice before taking such supplements, and report to me or a doctor as soon as (god forbid, if at all) you experience any side effects ma'am.
2. As you are already on medications to help bring your thyroid profile to normal ranges, an added supplement (if effective) can add to achieving this goal and may possibly overshoot this. So please inform your treating doctor about the same before initiating these supplements ma'am, as I would not want you to go for an under active thyroid to an over-active one.
I hope you find my responses helpful. Please do not hesitate to write to me anytime, and about anything. I am always here to help.
Best wishes.
Queries answered
Detailed Answer:
Hello once again ma'am.
If at all your TSH values were the same as stated and you did not have symptoms that depict hypothyroidism my answer to your question would be a 'No' to a prescription. But some of your symptoms are quite obviously due to hypothyroidism which is why my answer is a 'Yes' for a prescription ma'am; you will be needing one.
I doubt quitting smoking can put any stress on your body ma'am, in fact within a few days after smoking your bodily functions start improving due to various factors, and so this can only help and not cause damage in any way.
I hope this answers the queries you have XXXXXXX Please feel free to write to me anytime and about anything, you know I am always here to help.
Best wishes.
Correction of hormonal imbalance is required
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
It does seem like you are in menopause. Menopausal or pre-menopausal symptoms are mainly due to a hormonal imbalance that results from this. In order to correct these symptoms, we have to help stabilize the hormonal levels. For this reason, hormonal supplements are prescribed to women undergoing menopausal symptoms. So in conclusion, the symptoms will prevail as long as the hormonal imbalance exists. You should speak to your doctor who will elaborately evaluate your symptoms and prescribe a supplement most suited to your requirements.
The weight-gain as you have already guessed could be due to menopause, hypothyroidism or both together. By correction of the thyroid profile and following a good healthy diet that includes exercise, I am sure we might be able to tackle this issue to a certain extent.
I am really happy that you are health conscious and wish you all the luck you need to continue with the same lifestyle throughout. For everything else, you can always consult me.
Best wishes ma'am.

Start supplementation as early as possible
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
That's good news because once we find the cause, it makes treatment much simpler. So once all the tests are conducted and the hormonal imbalance is pin-pointed then we can address the deficiency and hope for all your symptoms to gradually subside.
Hoping and wishing for nothing but the best for you, now and in the future.
God bless.
