When Is Nefrosave Forte Tablet Prescribed?
My mother is suffering from chronic kidney disease. She is a diabetic and also suffering from hypertension, heart disease and thyroid.
Recently I visited a second nephrologist. He had a look at the Vitamin D, serum creatinine, serum potassium, sodium reports.
The doctor advised the following tablets
Cardace 5mg (twice a day)
MetXL 50mg (once a day)
and asked my mother to stop taking Nefrosave Forte and other hypertension drugs (nexovas 10mg currently and Telma 40mg earlier) that she is taking.
I would like to know the purpose of Nefrosave Forte tablet. Was this prescribed to stop the kidney condition from deteriorating?
On reading about the tablets Cardace 5mg, MetXL 50mg I found that they are used to lower the blood pressure. So can this alone stop the kidney damage?
Thanks and Regards,
XXXX
Hi
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Your mother seems to be suffering from Diabetes and kidney disease. You Have not mentioned the creatinine level. So i don't know the extent of damage.
Nephrosave contains N acetyl cystiene and taurine. These are antioxidents. The do not have a clear-cut role in kidney disease. but some people believe that they can help. so there will always be a difference of opinion about there use.
essentially your new doctor is giving you the same medicines as your previous doctor. just the names have changed.
To protect kidneys essential is-
1. keep bp <130/80 with medicine.
2. avoid non veg.
3. keep sugar levels controlled. and be in regular followup of your doctor.
Cadace cannot alone stop kidney damage. neither can any other medicine. It is a correct combination of medicines as per patient condition. There is no set rule for that. it is as per the treating doctors experience and some guidlines.
Best wishes
