When Is Trulicity Prescribed Even Though One Is Not Diagnosed With Diabetes?

Question: Hi - My name is XXXXXXX I am 50 years old and have PCOS. My new Endocrinologist has recommended 1500 mg of Metformin and has now prescribed Trulicity 1 x week. I am concerned about the Trulicity as I do not have Diabetes. The Nurse Practitioner explained that the Trulicity will help me lose weight due to me being insulin resistant. It seems that this is the prescription regime that this doctor gives to most of his patients. Does this sound right or should I seek out a second opinion?
Brief Answer:
it may be helpful even though you are not a diabetic
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It is understandable to be concerned since you are not diabetic but many medications have double, or sometimes, triple, uses.
Trulicity, like other meds in its class, can cause weight loss. As the nurse practitioner mentioned, it would also improve insulin sensitivity as well.
If you have any issues with it, your doctor can offer you an alternative that may also be helpful for you.
I hope this helps, feel to ask any other questions
