When Is Diuresis Prescribed While On Tikosyn, Metoprolol, Spironolactone And Furosemide?

default
Posted on Thu, 6 May 2021
Question: I am on tikosyn. I have been on for two weeks. I also take spironolactone and furosemide. While in the hospital administering the tikosyn, the Dr. had me in IV drip potassium as I was significantly low. I gained 10 lbs. in two days and have not been able to get it off. When I was discharged after three days, I dropped to the floor and was taken back in. I was fine for two days and was discharged again. I am also on metoprolol.
Why am I not getting any diuresis? My diet has nt changed significantly. I keep sodium at 2000 and my calories at 2000.

Probably diuretic resistance, follow the advice below

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to diuretic resistance. It is a medical condition when a person become resistant to diuretic drug effects.

Some advice that I can give to you are:
1) Check the renal function.I suggest the following examinations :
-Serum creatinine levels
-Urea nitrogen blood levels
-Glomerular filtration rate.
-Urine tests
2) Reevaluate with your cardiologist your actual therapy,it might be needed a change in dose, timing or combination of the medications
3) Limit the sodium intake
