Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Considering this image, there is reduced space in knee joint seen and minor changes related to osteoarthritis.
It means that knee joint cartilage is bit destructed and it may be cause of such pain. TO treat this, he should take nonsteroid painkillers, put warm packs, and put elastic bandages.
However, another cause may be present related to leg circulation and this may explain pain related to position.
He should do doppler ultrasound or CT angiography to rule this out.
In this case, radiological or surgical intervention may be required.
Wish you good health. Feel free to ask further questions.
Yhanks.
