When Should Vitamin K Be Given For High International Normalised Ratio?

Question: At what point would you consider giving a pt vitamin K when the international normalised ratio (INR) is high? For instance, at 1.5, 2.1, or 2.2,? Does it depend upon the results of other blood tests? The platelet count is presently normal, although is was quite high recently.Correction: the PLT was very LOW recently, but is now in the normal Ref Range.
Brief Answer:
I would use vitamin K if there is bleeding spells or when there is bleeding..
Detailed Answer:
Dear,
Normally in chronic diseases patients who suffer from embolic phenomenon the INR is maintained in the range of 2.5 to 3. At this range there is no danger of a bleed. We can wait for Vitamin k therapy till INR crosses 5 mark. At lower INR, I would use Vitamin K if there is bleeding spell.
Platelets have no bearing on this.
Truly,
