Question: Hello Doctor, I had symptoms of tingling and XXXXXXX vibrations like sensation in my both foot due to which i consulted an neurologist, who first suggested some tests, everything came normal such as Vit b-12, vit-d , Hba1c,blood sugar, folic acid etc, so he diagnosed it "Parathesias" & prescribed me gabapentin 100 mg once daily for 1 week and then twice for another 2 weeks and told to stop it thereafter, relief was instantly noticed and symptoms improved significantly but when i was about to complete 2 weeks dosage, the same sensation erupted again though at mid-minor intensity but there was significant lightness sensation in calf muscles of my both legs as if they don't got any power also nerve pulling sensation in tooth/gums at one side noticed ,so i again consulted same doctor, he now prescribed me once 300 mg of gabapentin for 2 weeks along with Evion- LC and told me to revert after 2 weeks. So as a second advice from you, whether this can be cured even through these medicines or i have to take these forever??? Can gabapentin even cure these permanently? I am totally frustrated as i almost reached close to finish the dosage of medicines but now i have to take these again? Please help me.

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are suggestive of peripheral neuropathy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query. I have noted your symptoms and they are suggestive of peripheral neuropathy. In this condition, the nerves in the skin get affected. Gabapentin will relieve and reduce the symptmos, however, gabapentin will not cure it. Initial blood tests are normal. If symptoms persist after stopping gabapentin, further tests may be needed. This would include nerve conduction studies, ANA profile and sural nerve biopsy.

I hope it helps. Please get back if you have any further queries.
