Which Is The Best Contraceptive Method For A Patient With PCOS?
I have recently been recommended either the IUD (Jaydess) or Implant (Nexplanon) and have to decide which one I would prefer to try. What do you recommend?
Implant will be the best contraceptive method.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
If you want to switch NEW birth control methods, Implant (Nexplanon) on arm will be the BEST among the available options. It has very minimal side effects and least failure rate (0.05%).
You should consult with your treating gynecologist for RIGHT choice of birth control method following proper clinical examination and ruling out risk factors.
Hope, it helps for your information. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query.
Wish your good health and take care yourself.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for follow up query.
Nexplanon (Implant) contains Etonogestrel as active ingredient and it is a long acting reversible contraception. Following advantages are available :
1) Works for up to 3 years (also Jaydess).
2) Most effective form of birth control. Failure rate is 0.05%.
3) No pelvic pain or risk of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease or ectopic pregnancy.
4) 10-15% women had either amenorrhea or irregular spotting (initially)
5) The average time for insertion is 30 seconds to 1 minute.
6) Works quickly after insertion. No necessary actions prior to intercourse for contraception.
7) Fertility returns quickly after removal (within a week).
8) Headache, acne, mood change, slight weight gain may occur in small percentage.
>> Jaydess is the smallest IUS and long-acting contraception (up to 3 years).
It is usually given to control heavy bleeding (in case of fibroid/ adenomyosis) and following child birth.
It has contraception failure rate 0.5 to 1% (more than Implant). Risk of heavy bleeding, irregular spotting, pelvic pain, ectopic pregnancy, ovarian cyst, acne, pelvic infection etc are quite MORE than Implant.
I suggest you to consult with your treating gynecologist for better option or RIGHT choice of contraceptive method following clinical or pelvic examination.
Hope, I have answered your query. Kindly, close the discussion.
All the best and good luck.
